Little Rock

Well, I am finally at a place where I can blog and not feel completely guilty about putting off other tasks. There IS laundry to be done, an entire house to be painted dinner to make...but all in due time. I didn't want to get too far past our move before I blogged it. We have officially left Kansas City for good and are feeling more and more settled in Little Rock. On Thursday, June 27, David went in for his last day at UMKC after 5 long years. He casually called U-Haul to reserve a truck for Friday, only to find out that there were NO TRUCKS IN KANSAS CITY. None. Not one. How is that possible you ask? We wondered the same thing, so we had them check, Olathe, Overland Park, Raymore, Peculiar, Independence, KCK, Wichita, Lawrence...EVERYWHERE. No trucks. So we thought ok, we can reserve on in Little Rock, my parents could drive it up, and it could be a one way trip. NOPE. No trucks in Little Rock. No trucks in North Little Rock, Clarksville, Russellville, Fayetteville, Joplin, Ft. Smith, Conway or anywhere! We were beginning to wonder if we were going to be able to move that weekend and then a guy in Harrisonville found us one in Butler, MO. Just a fun fact, reserving your truck at the end of the month and the day before you need it is not the way to go. But, crisis averted and Mom and Dad picked it up on their way in on Friday morning. We spent Thursday night doing more packing and loaded the truck all day on Friday. We weren't sure if we would get it all in, but it got done. Mike and Kathy ended up not coming to help, so they hired movers to lift all the heavy stuff for 2 hours...we were very thankful for that. Mom and Dad worked like beavers and we couldn't have done it without them. We decided to pull out late and try to make it to Fayetteville on Friday night. We got in around 11:30. To say that we had no extra space would be an understatement.

We got a picture with our great neighbors, Larry and Joann.

On the day we moved in to our house in Kansas City we snapped an impromptu picture on the front step right before we walked in. As we were leaving we decided to do it again, and David wore the same shirt as our move in day. Mom teared up of course, and then I did. It was an emotional day for sure, and we were so sad to leave, but at the same time excited about what is ahead.

Real life...

Like I said, we got to Fayetteville late, but thankful. Deuce rode shotgun with David is his truck, Sooie rode shotgun with Mom in the Expedition drugged out of her mind, Abigail rode with me, and Dad drove the U-Haul. Friday morning we got up and hit the road for the last part of our little journey. We got to our new home around noon, ate lunch, and started the process of unloading.

David's parents met us there, our friends Scott and Laura came to help, John came and Jay and Katherine brought us dinner! By the end of the day we were covered up in boxes, but our bed and Abigail's crib were set up. So we were good to go. Sunday was the "God and Country" service at IBC, when both services meet together. We decided that since both of our families would be there that we would go ahead and walk down and re-join. It was a special day.

David headed in to work on Monday, July 1 and I tried to start unpacking. I couldn't really get much done while watching Abigail though. By Thursday, (the 4th of July) we were ready for a break so we headed to Lake Ouachita.

We also got to do dinner on Friday night with Mike and Kathy.

The weekend after the 4th we got a ton done at the house and really feel like we're more moved in. Most of our boxes have gotten unpacked and we feel ready to begin the process of painting again. I may put some before and after pictures up once we get going.

Now I am settling in to my new normal, learning to navigate a new grocery store and becoming reacquainted with my old town. It's pretty cool to be back. I'm sure we'll continue to experience a whole range of emotions from here on out, but for now, everything is pretty exciting and busy. More blogging to come, but I just heard Abigail getting up from her nap, so this time is over!
