After dinner we shopped around and went into Crate and Barrel for the first time. It was a wonderful evening. On Saturday it was time to finish our cradle (I've learned what we have is technically a cradle, not a bassinet). David finished the painting and then I tried my hand at the antiquing process. It was my first time and it went ok. I'm glad that I tried it on a cheap cradle from Craigslist before anything because I feel much better at it now. It was a super hot day, but we pressed on and got it done!
David was mostly the "watcher" during the antiquing...he had done all the sanding and hard stuff. :)
In the middle of the afternoon we got a text from Pastor Steve offering us their Royals tickets in the Diamond Club, so we definitely decided to go! It was AMAZING to sit so close to the field. Even though it was super hot outside, we were shaded the whole time and even had the option to go inside in the air conditioning. There were also waiters and waitresses that would take your order. I'm ruined for Royals games here on out...all I want is the Diamond Club. :)
On Monday of this week David started seeing patients in his residency. So far it's going good. He is working hard to learn the "ins and outs" of the new computer system, managing his assistants and studying his new patients' histories. It's quite a task and I'm so proud of him for doing the program. He's such a hard worker and I know he will be successful...he's already working so hard.
On Monday evening my mom came into town to spend some time with me in the mornings before work and work on some nursery things. A while back we bought a dresser (that was not that cute) with plans to refinish and use it as a dresser/changing table for Abby's room. David and I got started on it on Sunday and got it painted and I got most of the drawers antiqued. I was much better at the distressing and antiquing this time around. When Mom came into town she helped us finish it up. I think it turned out really good and I LOVE it in the room. It's just how I imagined it.
Before...
After!...
Mom and Dad were wonderful enough to contribute to the nursery by getting us a glider! I ordered it the last time I was in Little Rock from a great store called "Pickles and Ice Cream" and it came in, so Mom carted it up here! I love it in the room with the pink walls and think it's a great complementary color to the pink.
Also accomplished this week was AlMOST finishing the old window that I found the last time we went to First Fridays. Mom had the great idea to put some of that wall art onto the glass, which I wasn't too sure of. But then we found a great tree design with all the colors of the nursery and I think it turned out really well. David still has to figure out a way to attach the knobs that I picked out, but after that it'll be done (I basically constantly have a project for David to work on these days).
It was SO nice to have Mom here. I was able to bounce ideas off of her, get her opinion, and really kind of complete some ideas in my mind. She helped so much. I'm so blessed by my family and their willingness to be a part of everything and help us so much. It really starts to come full circle as I think about being a Mom to a daughter. I have big shoes to fill and I hope I can be as great of a mom as my mom has been all these years (and is still being) for me. She even helped me get some basics for my maternity wardrobe. We didn't take any pictures of ourselves, just our work unfortunately. Thanks for coming Mom! I love you!
This weekend David and I are completely geared up for the summer olympics. We LOVE watching them and can't wait for the opening ceremonies tonight. Go USA! Everybody get out your red white and blue and cheer on America! :)
